Skywarrior - Power Ponied Up by Mace66VW
Skywarrior - Power Ponied Up

"True power comes not from the armor, but from the pony inside it."

I'm stoked about this piece for 2 reasons: I finally designed my own set of armor from scratch, and SKYWARRIOR IS BACK!

It's been six months since the Guardian of the Sky has made an appearance, but now he's back and better than ever. He's shorn the bulkier armors he's been known for in the past, and now instead favors a bodysuit with carefully-placed armor elements. The suit itself was inspired by the Omega Ranger from Power Rangers: SPD, while the helmet was inspired by Mega Man X's first armor. The emblem on his suit is something like a unit patch, and represents his position as Guardian of the Sky.

I'm very pleased with how this turned out, and will probably wind up writing an "in-universe" explanation for the new armor. Until then, enjoy and remember: comments are always welcome and appreciated!

Castlemane-ia: Sombra's Curse by Mace66VW
Castlemane-ia: Sombra's Curse
Musical accompaniment:…

Fillies and gentlecolts, here we have what, I guess, you could call a "spooky" deviation for the month of October - "Castlemane-ia: Sombra's Curse"! This started off as the next entry in my "Gaming What-Ifs" series, but seeing as how I already had a Castlevania-referenced piece in there, I decided to make this one a standalone. After playing the Castlevania series for a while, I noticed that Dracula was never truly "defeated" (off-screen defeat preceding Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow notwithstanding), but rather "put back to sleep" by a Belmont until fate decided it was time for him to rise once again and continue the dark cycle. The idea of Sombra's defeat being in a similar vein to the aforementioned struck me, and thus, I started work on this piece.

The front of the "box art" is based off the Japanese cover of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, while the "back" is based on the English version of the same game. What do y'all think? Can you picture Applejack, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Chrysalis teaming up to take down the vengeful spirit of King Sombra?

Took about 6 hours of work, and I really like how it turned out. HUGE thanks to :icongodoffury: for his amazing vectors of Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, and Queen Chrysalis. HUGE thanks also to :iconkhaomortadios: for posting the sprites for AJ, Twi, Chrysalis, and Dash from his "Mega Pony" fan game! (Go check it out; that thing is amazing.)

As always, comments are welcome and appreciated.

Gaming What Ifs - Fairy Tail X by Mace66VW
Gaming What Ifs - Fairy Tail X
Musical accompaniment -…

This is what happens when I play Castlevania: Dracula X whilst watching Fairy Tail and being unable to sleep. Inspiration for this came from my Mega Man / MLP comic covers and the fact that I'd always wanted to try my hand at designing some vintage video game box art. Thus, I took to Google, found the SNES box template, Erza renders, and sprites, and went to town on making "Fairy Tail X". Ended up spending about 3 hours on this one, and I really like how it turned out. (Even threw in a few "localization errors" on the back of the box. XD ) I may do a few more of these "Gaming What Ifs", too.

What do y'all think? Do you wish this was a real game, because I know I do. And as always, comments are welcome and appreciated.

And in case you're curious, here are links to the Dracula X boxart that inspired this piece:… - Front… - Back

Azure Nights by Mace66VW
Azure Nights

The stars played their silent symphony of the night, a performance oft slept through, but not so this eve. Two sets of eyes belonging to two distinctly different beings beheld the beauty wrapped in darkness. For one, the stars were her best work, set out every night for her subjects to sleep beneath and dream amongst. For the other, the stars symbolized hope, for as long as he could see them, he knew his end had not yet come. A brief glance was exchanged between the two, and in the instant that their eyes met, it was as though these thoughts were exchanged via an unspoken code. The two returned their gaze to the heavens. Neither had ever thought of doing so before, but perhaps a wish could be made on one of the stars above... What possible harm could be done?

Fixing his gaze on one of the brighter stars, he quietly spoke. He wanted nothing more than to return home, and see those he loved again. She silently listened, her heart swelling as she saw the sincerity and unyielding courage in his eyes. He would wait patiently for that day, he continued, and rejoice when it came. Her ears drooped and a drop of liquid pride formed at the edge of her eye. As she wiped it away, he turned and asked her what she would wish for. A pause filled the air as she mulled his question over; no one had ever asked her this before. She had returned from her banishment to a sister and populace that loved her, and had seen the safety and happiness of her subjects guaranteed time and time again. Her gaze wandered back to him, then up to the same star he had wished upon. She needed nothing, but he needed everything. She may not have been able to grant his wish, but she could at least add to it.

"I too, wish that one day, you will return to those that you love and that love you, Mega Man Volnutt," she said. "In the meantime, know this: you may be stranded here, but their hearts are with you. Let that give you strength to carry on, my friend. And remember... legends never die."

Here we have Luna and Mega Man Volnutt sharing a moment during his tenure on the moon (Elysium). I started working on this a few weeks ago, when the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 hit its third "anniversary", but had to put the project on hold for pilot stuff. As I was listening to the MML2 credits music the other night, I came back to the photoshop machine and found the PSD under my "recents" option and got back to work right away. This is the end result of about 2 hours' worth of work.

Call it wishful thinking, call it hopeless optimism, or whatever you will, but I do think Mega Man WILL get off the moon one of these days. Long live the Blue Bomber, and long live the Princess of the Night. Hope y'all enjoy this, and as always, comments are welcome and appreciated.

Hey, everyone.

It's been a wild past couple of months for me. Graduated college and am now at flight instructor school for a month or so. I had a few projects in the works before I left, but those are on hold for now. When I get back from CFI school, I'll get back into the Photoshop and drawing routines.

Hope y'all's summers are going well! Keep it real, and as always, keep it 20% cooler.
